A renewed three-year collaboration will empower survivors, foster local and global solutions, and drive change, continuing a legacy of impactful support since 2016.
The Hague—February 11, 2025. The Dr. Denis Mukwege Foundation and the Nationale Postcode Loterij are proud to announce the extension of their partnership for another three years, beginning January 1, 2025. Since 2016, the Mukwege Foundation has received an annual contribution from the Postcode Loterij to support its programmes with and for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence.
Following a positive evaluation of the partnership, the Postcode Loterij reaffirmed its commitment to the Foundation. Marieke Rodenhuis, Head of Charities at the Postcode Loterij, remarked:
“We are very proud that the Postcode Loterij, thanks to its participants, will continue to support the Dr. Denis Mukwege Foundation for the next three years. We fully support the Mukwege Foundation in its important mission to eradicate the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war worldwide.”
This continued collaboration supports the Mukwege Foundation’s ongoing efforts to address the needs of survivors. Reflecting on this milestone, Katrien Coppens, executive director of the Mukwege Foundation, stated:

About the Dr. Denis Mukwege Foundation
The Mukwege Foundation is an international rights-based, survivor-centred organisation working to change the global response to conflict-related sexual violence. We support survivors’ demands for a world where sexual violence as a weapon of war is no longer tolerated and bears consequences for individual perpetrators and states. We work for a future where survivors receive the holistic care and compensation they need to rebuild their lives. We create opportunities for survivors to speak out and be heard, and where they can organise to create change, influence policies, and demand justice and accountability. About the Nationale Postcode Loterij—Together we make a difference
The Nationale Postcode Loterij was founded in 1989 to support charities that work towards a just, healthy and green world. The lottery raises funds for its charities and raises awareness of their work.
With the Postcode Loterij, your postcode is your lottery number. This means you win together with your neighbours. Over 3 million participants now play the lottery. Participants have a chance to win hundreds of thousands of prizes every month, while at least 40% of the lottery ticket price goes to 146 charitable organizations annually. Since its inception, the Postcode Loterij has donated 8 billion euros to people and nature. UNICEF, Voedselbanken Nederland (Food Banks Netherlands), the Red Cross, Natuurmonumenten (Society for Preservation of Nature Monuments), KWF Kankerbestrijding (KWF Dutch Cancer Society), AAP (international animal welfare), and many other organizations receive support annually.
The Postcode Loterij is part of the Postcode Lottery Group, a social enterprise that has now set up the unique Postcode Lottery format in five countries. The goal is to raise as much money as possible for charities through organising a lottery. The Postcode Lottery Group is the third largest private donor to charities in the world (2021). In 2023, it was able to donate a record amount of over €900 million to charitable and cultural partners. The shares of the Postcode Lottery Group are 100% owned by a foundation.
